How to Make a Treble Crochet Stitch

The treble, or triple, crochet stitch (tr) is a basic stitch that every beginner crocheter should know. The work will progress faster since the treble is taller than a single or double crochet stitch (dc).

Steps:

1. Remove the first three chains from the equation (ch).

2. Twice wrap the yarn around the hook (yo) from back to front.

3. Insert the hook into both loops (lps) of the previous row’s next top stitch or the foundation chain’s next back loop.

4. Draw the yarn through the stitch by wrapping it around the hook (yo). The hook will now contain four loops (lps).

5. Wrap the yarn around the hook (yo) and pull it through the first two of your hook’s four loops. Your crochet hook will now have three loops (lps).

6. Draw the yarn through two loops by wrapping it around the hook (yo) (lps). On your hook, you have two loops remaining.

7. Wrap the yarn around the hook (yo) and pull it through the final two loops, leaving one loop (lp) on the hook. You’re all set to start your next treble crochet project (tr).

Tips:

As you wrap the yarn around the hook, use light pressure. It will be difficult to pull the thread back through the loops on your hook if they are too tight.
