How to Make a Basic Bead and Chain Necklace

This is a fun activity for a teenager to do, and it also makes a wonderful present. This pattern yields a necklace that measures around 25 inches in length.

Steps:

1. Select a chain weight that corresponds to the size of your beads. Choose a small, light chain if you’re using fragile beads.

2. Cut six 3-inch-long pieces of chain.

3. Make five sets of “beads on a wire.” Instructions can be found in the Related eHows article “How to Make a Bead on Wire Bracelet or Anklet.”

4. Attach the clasp’s ring to one of the chain links. To do so, gently pull one of the chain’s rings apart using little needle-nosed pliers. Place the clasp ring in place, then close it with your needle-nosed pliers.

5. Hook the loop eye to the chain and close it with pliers to attach one of the bead sets.

6. Continue alternating one chain, one bead set, and so on until all six chains and five bead sets have been used in a continuous chain.

7. Using your needle-nosed pliers, join the other end of the clasp to the chain to complete the necklace.

Tips:

Squeeze the pliers on the wire gently. If you don’t, you’ll end up with a rough region that will catch on your clothes and hurt your skin. To avoid nicks, it’s advisable to use round-nosed pliers as much as possible. You can buy a plastic material to coat the jaws of flat, jaw-type pliers if you need to utilize them.

A Y necklace can be made with the same materials. Attach a jump ring and then a drop in lieu of the bead set at the very bottom of the chain.

By using jump rings to connect the bead sets to your chain, you may let them dangle. You may use a ready-made necklace for this.

Warnings:

When you cut wire, it can fly across the room. It’s best to use safety glasses to avoid getting wire bits in your eyes.
